A simulation of a guideline development meeting

Learn how clinical and health systems guidelines are developed! Simulation session on 27 October 2025

Guidelines are an important tool for getting evidence into practice. NTNU will be running a simulation of a guideline development meeting on 27 October from 10h00 to 16h00 on the NTNU Trondheim Øya campus. By participating, you will be able to learn how evidence-informed guidelines are developed and also get a basic understanding of the GRADE Evidence-to-Decision (EtD) framework – a tool for structuring evidence to inform guideline and other decisions. As a participant in the simulation, you will be assigned the role of one of the members of a guideline panel for an organization that resembles the World Health Organization (WHO). These guideline panels usually consist of health professionals, researchers, government officials, patient representatives and others. Together, they assess research results and other information before coming up with a recommendation. In the session, we will simulate such a process.

To prepare for the simulation session on 27 October, you will need to watch a one hour online briefing video that will be sent to you. You will also be sent a short description of your role (name, country, profession, attitudes to the topic etc.) which you must read through before the simulation session. We also strongly encourage you to read the basic documents that will be shared with you in advance of the simulation session, but this is not a requirement.

Please note that you need to commit to participating for the full day – it will be disruptive to the learning process to have people coming and going. The simulation will be run in English and in-person only. There is no fee for attending.

If you would like to participate, please email Simon Lewin at NTNU by 13 October 2025: simon.lewin@ntnu.no
